Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine

It's spring break here, so on Wednesday, I took three of my kids to St. Augustine, about a two hour drive from Orlando. It's the oldest city in the United States.

Our favorite landmark is Castillo de San Marcos, an 16th century Spanish fort. Fortunately, because we have a 4th grader, we were able to get a free pass good at all national parks through the Every Kid in a Park program. I printed an extra and gave it to another family I saw waiting in line. Usually admission to the fort is $10 for adults ages 16 and over, and free for kids.

We were planning a tour of the Colonial Quarter, but had just missed a tour and decided not to spend over $40 for us to get in. We went there several years ago, and you can see pictures here: Historic St. Augustine. Instead, we walked around the old city a little and got some ice cream at Kilwin's before our next stop, Juan Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth and Timucuan Village.

Our final stops: St. Augustine Lighthouse and Pier
